about

I wrote this song at the end of April/beginning of March. There's a lead synth patch that is used on every song that is named after Alethea (Ships in the Night), and this was the song I originally created it for. There's a photograph I took of her when we went to the beach after a show she played in Norfolk, and using a synthesizer called Harmor, that photograph adds spectral harmonics to the synth patch and gives it the witchy timbre that it has. I've been playing this song live since I wrote it because the lyrics encouraged me to continue my personal journey, but also calmed me and helped me feel less alone in knowing I had a friend like her.

lyrics

A distant voice from distant days
Something new starting to crawl through the waves
I used to think things couldn't change
And that my fate and all my choices were already made

But all that's starting to change
It's a question of choice

It's a question of choice
This time I'm choosing to change

Something calm in the twilight air
Becoming so suddenly aware
A damaged you, a damaged me
Repairing so similarly

I feel me starting to change
I feel me starting to change

A damaged you, a damaged me,
Repairing so similarly
And I don't flinch when you stand near
The first time in a long time I don't feel fear

A damaged you, a damaged me,
Repairing so similarly
And I don't flinch when you stand near
The first time in a long time I don't feel fear

A damaged you, a damaged me,
Repairing so similarly
And I don't flinch when you stand near
The first time in a long time I don't feel fear

A damaged you, a damaged me,
Repairing so similarly
I feel safe when you are here
The first time in a long time I don't feel fear
