Who doesn't love The Cure's "Seventeen Seconds" album? I wanted to take a real shot at that minimal-pop sound. Lyrically, I'm coming from a place that I was once at, but am somewhat happy to say I no longer am. I think it used to be really easy for me to romanticize my social discomfort with the notion that there was a soul-mate out there to complete me. At one point in my life, I literally had the thought that it would be awesome to be attached at the hip to a more sociable partner than myself because they could make friends and, through them, I could have more friends. I've since gotten over that, but I know that kind of loneliness and sadness is a real thing.
